The students occupied the Murtala Muhammad international airport highway in the Ikeja axis of Lagos in a protest that has since resulted in gridlock.

In now-viral videos, the protesters are seen calling on the federal government to meet the demands of ASUU to enable them to return to school.

Security officials can also be seen at the protest ground maintaining orderliness.

ASUU has been in a tussle with the federal government since February 14, bringing educational activities in many government-owned tertiary institutions to a standstill over unmet demands.

Several meetings between the union and the federal https://twitter.com/yabaleftonline/status/1571785111682650113government have ended in deadlock.

In response, the federal government referred the matter to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) for adjudication.

“It would be appreciated if this dispute is given an accelerated hearing to bring the dispute to an end,” Chris Ngige, the minister for labour and employment, told the court.
