[ODUNEWS] September 5 – Liz Truss was announced as the UK’s new Prime Minister today, with her election as Conservative Party leader confirmed at lunchtime.

As Prime Minister, she is the leader of Her Majesty’s Government and has ultimate responsibility for the policies and decisions it makes.

Ms Truss’ election as Conservative Party leader was secured by 81,000 votes, against 60,000 in favour of Rishi Sunak. She succeeds Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and is due to meet the Queen at Balmoral this afternoon in order to be asked to form a government.

While Guernsey is not part of the UK, it has numerous links with the UK Government, notably through representation in matters of defence and international relations.

Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Deputy Peter Ferbrache is due to release a statement in response to Ms Truss’ election as Conservative Party Leader and UK Prime Minister, and outlining what she could mean for the Bailiwick, this afternoon.
