Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday met with the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Speaking at the party’s stakeholders meeting, Makinde called for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s chairman.
“Our party wants to rescue Nigeria and our candidate is a unifier. He wants to restructure Nigeria,” he said.
“Eight years of the All Progressives Congress have left us sharply divided. The issue is we must practice what we preach. If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify the PDP first.
“If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must have the willingness to bring inclusivity to the PDP. Do we have the capacity? The answer is a resounding yes.
“The message from the southwest PDP is that the southwest is asking that the national working committee (NWC) of the PDP should be restructured.
“We are asking the national chairman to step down so that the south will be fully included. That is the message.”
Makinde’s met with Atiku to discuss the future of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Atiku who came in the company of his running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and other top hierarchies of the party was received by the deputy governor of the state, Bayo Lawal at the Alakia Airport, Ibadan.
The entourage of the former vice president includes Sokoto State Governor, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state; Sen. Dino Melaye; Alhaji Babangida Aliyu; former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State; Governorship Candidate of Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, Ademola Adeleke, the governor-elect of Osun State, former minister of State, FCT, Mrs Jumoke Akinjide, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and a host it others.
Before the stakeholders’ meeting, the Atiku-led delegation was received by Makinde at the Agodi Government House, Ibadan, after which they proceeded to Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan for a closed-door meeting with the party hierarchy in the state.
