The Lagos state government has gotten the approval of the federal government for the construction of an international airport in Lekki.
The state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received a letter of approval from the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic summit on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Sirika said the airport will link Nigeria to the world, and open Lagos to more international economic partnerships.

The state government had announced that the construction of the new airport will begin in 2023.
Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Public Private Partnership, Mr Ope George, disclosed this while speaking at a media parley organised by the state government in Alausa.
According to George, the state government had already obtained all necessary approvals from the federal government.
He added that the new airport would be constructed on 3,500 hectares of land in the Lekki-Epe area.
George also disclosed that the master plan and aeronautical designs were in place adding that studies were ongoing about strategies, funding and other issues, after which the project would be taken to the market place.
