Rihanna has released her first solo single in almost six years, “Lift Me Up.” It was co-written by Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson and Tems and it pays tribute Chadwick Boseman, the original Black Panther star who passed away in 2020.
Announced just this week, Rihanna’s return to music has been the subject of much discussion, speculation, and fan frustration. She began recording a new reggae album with collaborators including Pharrell and Koffee (Shaggy was reportedly asked to audition). However, the birth of her first child in 2022 soon changed her mind.
Music is still a big part of Rihanna’s life, even if her Fenty brand is extremely successful. In a recent interview, she told Entertainment Tonight that she’s always working on music and when it’s ready, the fans will know.
Rihanna hasn’t been entirely absent from music since releasing “Anti.” In 2017, she appeared on a number of popular singles, including “Loyalty” by Kendrick Lamar, which won Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. She also featured on “Lemon,” the comeback single from N.E.R.D., and Future’s “Selfish.” It wasn’t until 2020 that Rihanna began to work more consistently with PARTYNEXTDOOR for her feature on the single “Believe It.”
