[ODUNEWS] October 13 – A Russian security council official on Thursday warned of World War III if Ukraine is made part of US-led NATO. The official said that if Ukraine is made a member of NATO then the war would be “guaranteed to escalate into World War Three.”
Alexander Venediktov, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council told to TASS, “Ukraine’s application for a fast-track NATO membership is rather a propaganda move. Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three.”
TAAS quoted Venediktov saying, “ NATO members themselves understand the suicidal nature of this step.” He added that Russia’s position on Ukraine’s NATO membership remains unchanged. “Ukraine’s accession to NATO or some other alliances formed under the auspices of the United States is unacceptable for us,” TASS quoted the deputy secretary saying.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a bid to fast-track the country’s membership in NATO after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of regions occupied by Russian forces.
