The attorney for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, said his client needed heart surgery to replace a valve.

In order to get medical attention, he urged the Federal Government to release the detained agitator.

Ejimakor tweeted a medical advice from Pink Rose Hospital Limited dated August 23, 2022 stating that Kanu has a heart-related issue that is life-threatening.

According to the medical advice, “The patient requires urgent surgical (internal heart surgery) intervention for the replacement of the tricuspid valve (heart valve).”

Ejimakor said: “For avoidance of any doubt, Nigerian government knew since August 2022 that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu requires surgery.

“Besides the court orders, this is enough to release him or accord him his right to independent medical care. It’s a universal norm.”

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja re-arraigned Kanu on January 19.

Federal authorities charged him with 15 counts of terrorism. He pleaded not guilty.

The Court of Appeal agreed with his preliminary objection, asking the court to throw out or quash the charges.

In a judgment on Kanu’s fundamental rights suit, the Umuahia High Court in Abia State awarded him N1billion in damages.

Upon making a broadcast “with intent to intimidate the population”, Kanu “threatened that people would die, the world would stand still”.

A lockdown of the Southeast was also triggered after he issued “a deadly threat” that anyone flouting his sit-at-home order should write their will.

Moreover, Kanu declared himself to be a member and leader of IPOB, a proscribed organization in Nigeria, punishable under Section 16 of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

It was alleged that he incited members of the public to kill Nigerian security personnel and their families.

Kanu instructed IPOB members to manufacture bombs and destroy public facilities, according to the Federal Government.

Also, he allegedly threatened the public not to come out on May 31, 2021, and directed them to “destroy public transportation in Lagos, resulting in major economic losses.”.

He was charged with importing into Nigeria and keeping in Ubullisiuzor in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State…a radio transmitter known as Tram SOL concealed in a container of used household items.

The prosecution said the alleged offence is punishable under Section 1(2)(b) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act of 2013.

Since his rendition from Kenya, Kanu has been held by the DSS.
