The energy project is situated in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

While unveiling the project, Buhari expressed the hope that it would help to revive ailing industries that depend on electricity to power their giant plants in the state.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Aminu Sagir, described the project as a progress for the people towards adding value to the economy.

According to him, the necessary support and funds were provided for the implementation of the project, adding that hopefully the impact of the project would be felt via the creation of fresh employment opportunities.

“The project is to be supervised and managed by the NSIA which is jointly owned by the federal government, the Kano State government and the host community.

“The project is currently the largest grid-connected solar PV plant and is proof of successful mid-sized solar PV deployment in Nigeria. This would catalyse growth in the power sector as it shows that renewable projects of this magnitude can be successfully delivered. It also builds Nigeria’s credentials in the fight against climate change and our commitment to attaining net zero carbon emissions by 2060,” he said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, commended the President for identifying with the people of Kano through the execution of human-oriented projects, such as the solar energy project being unveiled today (Monday).

Furthermore, he commended the President for extending the deadline on old naira notes.

Among the projects Buhari unveiled on Monday include the Dala Inland Port, Galaxy Backbone Limited on Ahmadu Bello Way, and Kano, among others.
