Elton John’s farewell tour has set a new record as the highest-grossing tour of all time, with potential earnings estimated to reach $1 billion.
The latest leg of the Oceania tour earned him $817.9 million. With 50 more European dates scheduled for 2023, including a 10-night residency at London’s O2 Arena and a headline performance at Glastonbury Festival, his earnings could reach the billion-dollar mark.
The tour, which started in North America, had 42 performances in 2018, 111 in 2019, and 25 in 2020 before being disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2022, Elton completed 93 concerts, including three sold-out shows at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He surpasses Ed Sheeran, who previously held the record with his Divide tour, earning $775.6 million.
Other top-earning acts include U2, The Rolling Stones, and Coldplay. Elton’s husband, David Furnish, has hinted that the artist may return for special performances in the future.
