In the Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on New Year’s Day, gunmen broke into the home of an Ebubeagu commander, killing his wife.
In the incident, which happened at about 2 in the am on Sunday, they also set fire to his country home in the Owutu Edda village.
Chris Anyanwu, a spokesman for the police department, issued a statement confirming the event.
According to him, on January 1, 2023, at around 2:30 a.m., the residence of Afikpo-South Ebubeagu Commander Oyeku Kalu Chima was attacked and set on fire, and Chima’s wife, Urenwa Kalu Chima, was shot dead.
To identify the perpetrators of these crimes, Commissioner of Police Aliyu Garba psc (+) of the Ebonyi State Police Command has ordered an immediate inquiry to be launched by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation/Intelligence Department (SCIID).
In addition, “operatives of the command’s tactical teams and detectives from the SCIID have assumed control of the situation in the region in accordance with the CP’s directives that the offenders must be fished out and brought to book without delay.”
Ebubeagu is a regional security organization created to support security agency initiatives.
