The collecting deadline was previously set by INEC for Sunday, January 22, 2023. Following a meeting on Thursday, INEC declared that the deadline had been extended by eight days.

The deadline for the collecting of PVCs has been extended by eight days because INEC National Commissioner Festus Okoye said, “The Commission is resolved to ensure that registered voters have adequate chance to collect their PVCs ahead of the approaching election.”

“Instead of concluding on January 22, 2023, the PVC collection will continue until January 29, 2023. Currently, collection hours are 9.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m. daily (including Saturdays and Sundays).” Okoye further revealed that over 100,000 PVCs have been collected in several states after the commission transferred PVC collecting to Ward on January 6. According to the statement, “The Commission is heartened by the increase in registered voters and the number of PVCs gathered across the country. Since the devolution to ward level began on Saturday, January 6, 2023, as many as 100,000 PVCs have been gathered in various states in the last five days.” The Commission is determined to provide registered voters with adequate information.

“For the record, the Commission has printed 13,868,441 PVCs for all new valid registrants as well as applications for card transfer or replacement,” the National Commissioner stated. Nonetheless, issuing officers must assemble any complaints concerning card non-availability and submit them to their immediate supervisors for the attention of resident electoral commissioners, who must compile and forward them for required action. The Commission thanks citizens for their patience and perseverance as we strive to improve our approach to make PVC collection easier.”
