All local and international flights have been grounded at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport following a strike action by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company.
In a video seen online by OduNews, many passengers were stranded at the international airport, moving about helplessly with their luggage.
An airport official told dozens of the waiting passengers that the NAHCO workers are on strike and that they have to wait for between 30 minutes and one hour or more to see what becomes of meetings of the protesting workers, amidst protest by stranded passengers.
The official said that the airlines affected are the ones being handled by the protesting workers, while other airlines with different arrangements are being cleared for scheduled flights.
NAHCO handles check-in, boarding and ramp services for some international airlines including Air France/KLM, Qatar, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Turkish Air, Rwanda Air and ASKY among others.
A tweet by Oluwatosin Oladeinde, chief executive officer (CEO), Money Africa, reads “Airlines ground handlers on strike at Lagos Airport. No departure check-in and no arrival of flights for now departing passengers stranded”.
