Russian Troops Regroup To Launch New Attack on Town Near Bakhmut

Russian troops are reportedly trying to advance on the town of Soledar in Ukraine’s Donetsk region once again, according to Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar.

Maliar stated that the enemy had regrouped and deployed additional units after their previous attempt to capture Soledar failed. She added that the enemy is currently using artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and mortars and is advancing “literally on the corpses of their own soldiers.”

Serhii Cherevatyi, a Ukrainian military spokesperson, confirmed that Russia has “managed to concentrate more of its units” around Soledar and is using both regular troops and mercenaries working for the Wagner group in the assault.

The head of Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has stated that one of the reasons for the attack is to control the system of mines in the area, which he described as “a network of underground cities.” Ukrainian authorities are trying to evacuate civilians from Soledar, but some, especially the older generation, are unwilling to leave their homes.

President Volodymr Zelensky reported that Soledar is “holding out” but the situation is “extremely hard.”
