[ODUNEWS] January 24 – The Nigerian government has given the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transport Workers of Nigeria a letter of approval (AUATWON).
The presentation was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. All app-based transportation workers and online transportation services, including e-hailing drivers and operators, are represented by the new union.
The registration, according to Ngige, was a watershed moment in labour administration, notably in the trade union services sector. According to the minister, the informal sector, which employs the majority of employees, is being institutionalised around the world.
“Today, we are breaking new ground with folks who employ themselves and, from there, employ others,” he explained.
