Boko Haram Attacks Polling Unit in Borno State

On election day, suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group launched an attack on a polling unit in the Gwoza local government area of Borno State. According to sources and residents, the terrorists fired a Rocket Propelled Launcher (RPG) at the polling unit at around 10 am on Saturday, causing voters to flee for their safety. While no lives were lost, some people sustained injuries during the attack.

The terrorists fired the RPG from a far distance from the Mandara Mountains bordering Gwoza and Cameroon Republic, an area known for terrorist activities. The attack is a clear indication of the continuous threat of terrorism in the region, which has resulted in the loss of lives, displacement of citizens, and disruption of the electoral process.

Gwoza, which is about 150km from Maiduguri, is the hometown of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who is re-contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). All efforts to confirm the incident from Senator Ndume, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, were unsuccessful as his phone line was switched off at the time of the report.

The attack on the polling unit in Gwoza is a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the region, and it is essential for the government and security agencies to work together to address the issue. It is crucial to ensure the safety and security of citizens, especially during the electoral process. The authorities must put measures in place to safeguard the electoral process and protect citizens from terrorist attacks.
