An unknown number of people have been reportedly trapped in a building that collapsed in Abuja on Thursday, OduNews reports.
The building situated in the Gwarinpa Area of Abuja collapsed on Thursday.
Ikharo Attah, the senior special assistant to the FCT minister on monitoring, inspection, and enforcement, has confirmed the development.
Attah said many are still feared trapped under the rubble of the building suspected to be a shopping mall in the 7th avenue in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja while seven were rescued.
“As of 2: 41pm on Thursday, we have rescued seven persons. Out of the seven, five looked stable while two have been taken to the hospital due to their unstable condition,” Attah said.
“So many of them are still there. Many of them are still calling their relatives under the rubble.”
A Twitter user with the handle @nnjigs who shared a video of the building claimed people were trapped under the rubble.
“Just witness a poor collapse of an ongoing construction building in Gwarinpa, Abuja, 4th Avenue. People are trapped inside. Please, help inform all necessary agencies,” the tweet read.
