The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a statement denying allegations that it raided the home of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. In a press release on Sunday, EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren refuted the claims, which had been circulating on social media.
Uwujaren stated that the reports of a raid on Tinubu’s home, where the EFCC allegedly recovered N400 billion, were entirely false. He emphasised that no such operation had taken place, and urged the public to disregard the reports as fake news.
“The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media, claiming that operatives of the Commission raided the home of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, standard-bearer of APC, in the forthcoming presidential election and recovered a humongous sum of N400 billion,” Uwujaren said.
“The Commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news,” he added.
It is important to note that false information can have severe consequences, and the public should always verify information from reliable sources before accepting it as true. The EFCC’s statement clarifying the situation is intended to reassure the public that the agency remains committed to its mandate and will not engage in illegal activities.
