On Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced via its official Twitter handle that it had thwarted an alleged attempt to buy votes in the upcoming presidential and national assembly elections by intercepting N32.4 million in Lagos.
The Commission’s Lagos Zonal Command operatives made the recovery as part of a major operation aimed at preventing vote trading and other financial malpractices ahead of the polls.
The anti-graft agency said that the suspect involved in the attempted vote buying has been taken into custody for further questioning.

The EFCC called on all personnel deployed for election monitoring duties to remain vigilant and not allow unscrupulous individuals to compromise the integrity of the elections by offering financial inducements.
Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to safeguarding the electoral process from financial malpractices. He urged the public to report any instances of vote buying or selling by making use of the EFCC’s financial crimes reporting App, Eagle Eye, which can be downloaded from the Google Play or Apple store.
