Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, says the governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele is planning to cause confusion during the forthcoming elections through the naira swap policy.
Ganduje said this at a campaign rally held at Tsanyawa, on Sunday, where he presented the APC governorship candidate, running mate and senatorial candidates, among others to the people.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar, the Governor said, “The CBN governor is only doing this to cause confusion in the forthcoming elections over unjustifiable reasons.”
For quite some time, the CBN governor has been in a bad mood primarily due to his failure to secure the presidential ticket on our great party, the APC platform.”
Governor Ganduje categorically stated that the Kano state government and the APC in the state were totally against the action of the CBN governor.
“Currency redesign is done across the globe, but not in the way we are witnessing in our country. The timing is wrong, the deadline given is very wrong and deliberate,” he said.
Governor Ganduje outlined part of the measures to adopt to cushion the effects of the hardship caused by naira swap development to include, “We will summon bank managers very soon to interrogate the shortage of new naira notes in banks.
“They should come over and explain to us, why our people are still suffering over this issue of naira Swap. I will visit them individually to supervise what is happening and why.”
Governor Ganduje noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government distributed palliatives to citizens across all 44 local government areas.
“We have a plan in the pipeline to start distributing palliatives very soon across all the 44 local governments, so as to cushion the effect of the hardship caused by the CBN governor to our people.”
At the domains of the district heads of Kunchi and Tsanyawa local governments, he urged community leaders to create awareness within their jurisdiction to let people know that the hardship the people facing is singlehandedly caused by the CBN governor, ostensibly to cause confusion in our democratic process.”
