Minister Orders Arrest of Officials, Developer in Connection with Abuja Building Collapse

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello, has issued a directive for security agencies to detain individuals involved in the recent collapse of a two-story building in Abuja.

According to the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Umar Shuaibu, this includes officials of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) tasked with monitoring the construction, the permit granting authority, the developer, and the engineer overseeing the project. Shuaibu stated that the arrest is for manslaughter.

The tragic incident took place two days prior, when the unfinished building located at 6th Avenue in the Gwarimpa Estate area suddenly crumbled, trapping 24 individuals.

Sadly, three individuals have been confirmed dead, while 21 others have been rescued. The arrest of those responsible is meant to hold accountable all those who played a role in the construction of the building and ensure the safety of citizens in future projects.
