Youth Corper Held Hostage by Voters in Delta State

According to reports, a youth corps member named Adeleke E. and another person were allegedly held hostage by angry voters at Oki Street in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. Adeleke E. was an ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The incident occurred at Unit 19, Ward 5, Oki 1, off Okere Road in Warri, Delta State. Security operatives were seen heading to the scene to rescue the affected individuals.

According to Adeleke E., they were held hostage by angry voters because the BVAS (Biometric Voter Accreditation System) machine had crashed. Efforts to contact the INEC office in Warri have been unsuccessful, as they are not answering their calls, he added.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of ad-hoc staff during elections, as well as the need for adequate training and resources to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of elections. INEC has been urged to take appropriate measures to address the challenges and ensure that the rights and welfare of all electoral personnel are protected.
