Popular Nollywood actor and politician, Desmond Elliot, has expressed his concerns over the amount of hatred he has received from people due to a comment he made back in 2020.
During the #ENDSARS protest in 2020, a video of Elliot referring to Nigerian youths as children during a plenary session at the Lagos state House of Assembly went viral, causing a backlash from Nigerian youths who expressed their resentment towards him since the incident.
Speaking on TVC’s Your View, ‘Let’s Talk’, Elliot apologized for the comment, explaining that he made it out of emotions. He further added that the amount of hatred he has received on the heels of the comment was ‘too much’, while calling on Nigerians to spread love instead.
“I’m still apologizing to those who must have misconstrued what I said. I said I was taken by emotions,” he said.
“But, in the end, it still didn’t take away from the facts; the hatred is too much, the polity, the hatred is too much.”

Elliot also revealed that the hatred has extended to the streets as he gets verbal attacks whenever he steps out. He stated that he has been in politics for eight years, and he still stands on the fact that love conquers all. Despite being cursed in the streets, he is not afraid or ashamed as people don’t understand the stress that politicians go through.
