The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, following allegations of anti-party activities. The decision was made by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward, Gboko Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
During a press conference held on Sunday, Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum, the Ward Secretary, spoke on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman. He detailed the reasons for Dr. Ayu’s suspension, explaining that the National Chairman was accused of working against the success of the party in Igyorov Council Ward during the recently concluded general elections.
Mr. Dooyum read from a statement signed by 12 of the 17 Ward Executive members, which highlighted Dr. Ayu’s alleged failure to pay his Annual Subscription Fees, as required by Section 8 (9) of the PDP constitution (2017, as amended). The statement also noted that Dr. Ayu did not cast a vote during the Governorship and State Assembly Elections on March 18, 2023.
Moreover, the Ward Executive claimed that many of Dr. Ayu’s close associates were discovered to have supported the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), contributing to the PDP’s poor performance in Igyorov Ward.
In light of these findings, the Ward Executive has passed a Vote of No Confidence in Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and suspended him as a member of the PDP, effective March 24, 2023.
