The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has announced plans to hold an induction program for incoming and re-elected governors in May 2023. According to a statement released on Monday by NGF’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, the induction is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 17, 2023.
In addition, the NGF has also set the date for its 2023 valedictory meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. The meeting invitation was issued by the Director-General of the NGF, Mr. Asishana B. Okauru, and sent to all 36 governors. Unlike the four previous meetings held in 2023, which were conducted virtually, this fifth meeting will be held in person.
During the valedictory meeting, governors will have the opportunity to share their parting remarks. Seventeen governors will be departing the Forum upon the completion of their terms in office. The upcoming NGF induction program will focus on preparing the new governors for their roles and responsibilities within the organization.
The valedictory meeting also marks the conclusion of the Fayemi/Tambuwal leadership within the Forum. A new chairman will soon be chosen from the governors of the majority party, with first-term governors being ineligible to run for the position.
The induction program and upcoming leadership transition underscore the NGF’s commitment to maintaining continuity and fostering collaboration among Nigeria’s state governors as they work together to address the nation’s challenges and opportunities.
