Pentagon Probes Authenticity of Leaked US and NATO Military Info About Ukraine

The Pentagon is currently investigating potential leaks of classified US and NATO military information related to Ukraine, which have appeared on social media platforms, according to a Pentagon official. While some of the images have been seen on Twitter and Telegram, their authenticity remains unverified. US officials have indicated that the documents appear to be real slides from a larger daily intelligence deck produced by the Pentagon about the war, although some sections seem to have been edited.

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh did not comment on the legitimacy of the documents but confirmed that the Defense Department is “aware of the reports of social media posts” and is reviewing the matter. Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, asserted that the Russians are responsible for the alleged leak and that the distributed documents are inauthentic, unrelated to Ukraine’s actual plans, and based on fabricated information.

The leaked documents, whether genuine or not, have intensified discussions about the timing of the planned Ukrainian counteroffensive and the level of knowledge both sides possess about each other’s preparations. The New York Times, which first reported the Pentagon investigation, noted that some of the images circulating online contain intelligence that could benefit Russia, such as the rate at which Ukrainians are using munitions in US-supplied rocket systems.

Podolyak referred to the documents as “a bluff” and said that if Russia had genuinely obtained real scenario preparations, it would not make them public. He added that the Russian military would soon become familiar with Ukraine’s actual counteroffensive plans. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed no doubt about the direct or indirect involvement of the United States and NATO in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that this involvement level is gradually increasing and complicating the situation.
