Ekweremadu's Daughter Expresses Guilt Over Parents' Sentencing in Organ-Harvesting Plot

Earlier, OduNews.com reported that a UK court sentenced Ike Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in prison, while his wife, Beatrice, received a four-year and six-month sentence for conspiring to harvest a man’s kidney. The couple’s accomplice, medical doctor Dr. Obinna Obeta, was handed a 10-year sentence. The Ekweremadus were seeking a new kidney for their 25-year-old daughter, Sonia.

In an interview with the BBC following the court’s judgment, Sonia expressed her guilt and sorrow over the situation. Fighting back tears, she said, “I don’t think it will ever be the same again. And obviously, I feel guilty because I feel like all these have happened because of me.”

Regarding her parents’ reactions to their predicament, Sonia, who could not speak for their true feelings, stated that they appeared “quite calm.” She added, “They are okay, they are just neutral.”

Reflecting on the ordeal, Sonia said, “Life is just so dynamic. Like you’re one day in your house chilling and the next day your whole life is turned around, upside down.” While she personally disagreed with the court’s decision, she acknowledged her bias as the couple’s daughter and accepted that the law has taken its course.

Going forward, Sonia plans to focus on helping people with kidney conditions, offering support and alleviating their fears. She also intends to continue supporting her parents and siblings during this difficult time.
