The Lagos state government has arraigned a staff bus driver, Osibanjo Oluwaseun, who collided with a train at the PWD railway leading to the death of six persons.

The defendant, who was arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, on Tuesday is facing 16 counts bordering on involuntary manslaughter and previous harm, preferred against him by the state government.

Babajide Martins, the director of public prosecutions, testified in court that the BRT driver murdered the victims carelessly when he disregarded warning signals and struck an approaching train.

He claimed that the defendant negligently caused severe harm to 10 other bus passengers.

OduNews had reported that that the moving train ran into a bus at the PWD crossing in Ikeja and dragged it to the Shogunle area of the state.

A message from Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, South-West Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency who confirmed the incident had initially read, “Two adult female staff of the State Government dead and several injured evacuated.

Meanwhile, the government had earlier that the driver would be charged on six charges of manslaughter and ten counts of grievous bodily harm. It noted that both offences were against Sections 224 and 245 of the Lagos State Criminal Code from 2015.
