Renowned singer, Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, recently addressed the controversy surrounding the lyrics of his hit song ‘Holiday’ in an interview with Cool FM Lagos.
The artist had faced criticism for allegedly promoting criminal activities after mentioning that he stole a friend’s laptop during his struggling days in Benin.
Rema clarified his intentions during the interview, explaining that he did not mean to glorify stealing and regretted that some people interpreted the lyrics that way. He said, “The lyric was good enough to explain the whole scenario. It’s not that deep. I really don’t want to glorify stealing, but it was just very unfortunate [that happened at that time].”
Additionally, the singer took the opportunity to clear up misconceptions about the cover art for his album ‘Rave & Roses.’ The artwork, featuring an upside-down burning house with a cross, sparked rumors that it depicted a church.
Rema debunked this notion, saying, “A lot of people had a lot of misconceptions [about the album cover], they said it’s a church. Anything they just see cross, they say it’s a church. It’s not a church. The cover art inspiration was an embodiment of me consist of a cross and a fire. The whole house actually kind of signifies me.”
