Moses reiterated that the said police officer was actually the one guilty of provoking Seun into physically assaulting him.

“On the said day, Seun was driving with his family on the third mainland bridge when he was suddenly hit from behind by a police truck being driven by an officer who was reportedly drunk.

“This act from the officer led Seun’s daughter into a sudden shock, as she was visibly shaken by the hit. So, this made Seun pursue the truck, double-crossed it and forced it to a stop. When the police officer got down from the truck, instead of apologising, he was arguing with Seun, which provoked him to slap the officer. People should realise that men in uniforms also provoke civilians. Immunity is no excuse for impunity,” the newspaper wrote

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in an official statement on his Twitter handle that Seun was arrested in the early hours of Monday, May 15, 2023, when he turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in the company of his lawyer and family representative.

He said; “The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, had ordered Seun’s arrest after a video of the musician assaulting a policeman surfaced online.

The PPRO also confirmed that Seun Kuti had after the altercation apologised to the assaulted policeman and given him the sum of ₦‎12,000 for vehicle repair.

Hundeyin said, “Although the investigation is still ongoing, your correspondence is correct. Seun Kuti apologised to the officer on Saturday and gave him ₦‎12,000 to repair his damaged vehicle after the officer followed him to his house in Ikeja after the altercation.

“Fortunately, the policeman had earlier reported the incident at the Area F Police Command, and deposited the ₦‎12,000 with the Command, before the video of the assault went viral on social media.”
