Mike Onyemachara, a member of the silver medal-winning Flying Eagles team in the 1989 tournament in Saudi Arabia, reportedly passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
According to TheNiche, Onyemachara appeared to be in good health when his wife left for work and his children went to school on the day of his death.
Upon their return, they discovered that Onyemachara had not touched the food served to him and had tragically passed away. While the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, it is speculated that the talented footballer died in his 3-bedroom apartment in Ajegunle.
Some of Onyemachara’s teammates, who were close to him, reported that he had complained of back pain in recent times. Onyemachara was a skilled defender who played most of his club football with First Bank of Lagos and was a vital member of the 1989 Flying Eagles team that secured a silver medal in Saudi Arabia.
