Akinremi’s demise, which occurred on Sunday, has been attributed to an unspecified illness.

A statement released on Thursday by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, conveyed the condolences of the Acting IGP, on behalf of all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, to the bereaved family, friends, and associates of Akinremi, who was a retired Commissioner.

The Police Chief remembered Akinremi’s appointment as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1986, stating that his unwavering commitment and significant contributions towards the nation’s safety and security were noteworthy.

In Egbetokun’s words, Akinremi’s “devotion to enforcing the rule of law, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and fostering peace within our communities was commendable.”

As a former CP, Akinremi held positions such as Taraba State’s Chief, the Head of the IGP X–Squad, and Deputy Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, noted Egbetokun. Following his appointment by Governor Dapo Abiodun, Akinremi served as the Commander of the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) until his demise.

In expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, the Ogun state government, and its people, the IGP stressed that “the Force recognises the depth of this loss and encourages them to seek comfort in the Lord, as every soul must experience death; they should rest assured of the wider police family’s support during this challenging period.”
