Former NBA star explains the decision behind sharing finances equally and supporting loved ones in a candid interview.

Retired NBA legend Dwyane Wade has shed light on the reasoning behind the equal financial split with his wife, Gabrielle Union. During an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Wade discussed the headline-making topic that his wife previously addressed during a podcast appearance of her own.

Wade revealed to host Shannon Sharpe that the decision to split their finances evenly originated from a remark he casually made to Union while they were living in Miami. The retired athlete recounted, “I said something about it being my house that I paid for. My wife looked at me and said, ‘you will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share.’ So when we moved to [Los Angeles], my wife said, ‘I got half on it, you will never say my house again — you can say that in the arena!'”

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have been happily married since August 30, 2014. While Union continues her acting career, Wade retired from the NBA in 2019 after earning an estimated $200 million during his tenure with the Miami Heat, as reported by Outkick.

Wade clarified that when it came to their home, both he and Union contributed equally to the purchase. Furthermore, they made the conscious decision to equally share responsibility for their daughter Kaavia, who was born via surrogate in November 2018. Wade emphasized, “Anything that goes on with her, 50/50 we share it together.”

The couple’s financial arrangement extends beyond their household, with Wade explaining that while they split their finances evenly, they each provide full support to their respective loved ones. Wade elaborated on this, stating, “I have 20 to 50 responsibilities, and my wife has 20 to 50 responsibilities. She pays 100% of that, and you know what I do? I pay 100% of my life.”

Addressing the topic of a prenuptial agreement, Wade revealed that Union signed one in their marriage. He emphasized that he offered to sign a prenup as well, acknowledging Union’s financial independence and hard work.

Gabrielle Union gained widespread attention in May when she discussed their equal financial split on the Black Millionaires podcast. Union shared that they split everything “fifty-fifty” in their household. However, she also highlighted the additional financial obligations they have to support their extended families, which can create added pressure and drive the need to constantly work.

Wade’s recent interview provides valuable insight into the couple’s philosophy on shared finances and their commitment to supporting their loved ones. Their decision to evenly split their financial responsibilities reflects their dedication to maintaining equality and harmony in their relationship.
