President Bola Tinubu has convened a crucial meeting with the 36 state governors of Nigeria, representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). The meeting, taking place at the Council Chamber in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, marks President Tinubu’s first official engagement with the governors since assuming office on May 29. The meeting commenced at approximately 12:36 pm.
In attendance at the gathering are several governors from various states, including Zamfara, Kano, Taraba, Kogi, Ogun, Nasarawa, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Ebonyi, Lagos, Rivers, Osun, Jigawa, Benue, Delta, Enugu, Oyo, Plateau, Kebbi, Abia, Imo, and Bauchi. The states of Katsina, Kaduna, Gombe, Borno, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Ekiti, and Sokoto have yet to be represented at the meeting. However, the deputy governors of Edo and Niger states are present, representing their respective states.
Joining the gathering are Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The meeting serves as a significant platform for President Tinubu to engage with the state governors, collectively addressing national priorities and discussing strategies for development.
It is noteworthy that President Tinubu recently met with the Progressive Governors Forum, which comprises governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday of last week. These interactions underscore the President’s commitment to fostering collaboration and synergy among key stakeholders in order to drive the nation towards progress and prosperity.
