Reactions have continued to trail the outcome of the 2023 BET Awards as Nigerian singer Asake loses out on the Best New International Act to Cameroonian singer, Libanca.
Libianca emerged victorious in the category, surpassing her Nigerian counterpart, Asake, to claim the coveted award. Other nominees included Flo and Raye from the UK, Camidoh from Ghana, Maureen and Werenoi from France, MC Ryan SP from Brazil, and Pabu Cooper from South Africa.
Libanca became the first-ever Cameroonian artist to receive such recognition at the prestigious BET Awards.
The 23rd BET Awards, held on Sunday night, June 25, celebrated outstanding accomplishments in the realms of entertainment, paying tribute to achievements in music, sports, television, and movies.
Libianca’s continual trailblazing efforts have propelled her to break new boundaries and set records. Her hit single, “People,” has attained Platinum certification in countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Switzerland. Additionally, it has achieved Gold status in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Denmark.
With each accomplishment, Libianca solidifies her position as a rising star, leaving an indelible mark on the global music scene and inspiring aspiring artists in Cameroon and beyond.

Tbh really wished Asake could’ve won that new act category but i understand Libianca edged him out with “people” global wave
Fair decision from the BET considering the Hot 100 debut.
A billboard success is very huge which can’t be ignored.— Adé. (@adxjnr) June 26, 2023
Asake and Libianca equally deserve the award. Even though I would have loved Asake to win but there can only be a winner, Libianca winning is justified because she also had an all round amazing year.

Nine Years this, Sarkodie sef no fit take Castro Saman amass the views Libianca had in just 5 months and you expected Camidoh and Asake to win over her lol pic.twitter.com/eCGh9wTGqA

Saying Asake deserves this award over Libianca is to underplay Libianca's achievement internationally.Asake didn't do half of what she did musically around the globe. Libianca is gradually putting Cameroon on the map, a country that's not known for its musical ability. That's huge pic.twitter.com/YHIHhpGSj1
