Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott may not yet have a Super Bowl to his name, but his work ethic and dedication have earned him the respect of his teammates and coaches. The admiration inside the Cowboys organization for Prescott is significant, despite ambivalence from some fans. Former quarterback and Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, recently shared his perspective on Prescott’s impact on the team.

In an interview on The Season with Peter Schrager, Moore described Prescott as the kind of leader who arrives early and is the last to leave. Such commitment, Moore believes, is a defining quality of great players.

Moore, who was also a quarterback when Prescott joined the Cowboys, was forced into early retirement due to injury. He served as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator until 2022 before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in the same capacity. He recounted how Prescott took on extensive practice reps while Moore was recovering from surgery and Tony Romo was dealing with back issues.

Moore recalled the first preseason game against the Rams, saying, “Dak was taking a ton of reps in practice, basically 1s, 2s, and 3s. And he goes out there and just is dealing. It was incredible.” After Romo’s back issues worsened during the next game against Seattle, Prescott again stepped up and performed impressively.

While Moore admitted to a sense of missed opportunity, he took comfort in the realization that everything happens for a reason. He added, “A, we figured out that Dak was really, really good. I’m glad we did.” It’s clear that Dak Prescott’s commitment to the game has left a lasting impression on his peers, irrespective of his lack of a Super Bowl title.
