ABUJA – Daniel Bwala, a close aide to the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has hinted that President Bola Tinubu may consider the removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, should he proceed with the planned demolitions in the nation’s capital.
This follows recent statements from Wike upon his inauguration as Minister on Monday, wherein he expressed a staunch resolve to restore the original master plan of Abuja. Wike’s stern message, as reported by LatestNaija.news, targeted even the highest echelons of power, warning, “Be you a minister or an ambassador, if you’ve built where you weren’t supposed to, your house will go down. Those who have encroached on green areas, our parks will return, and the green areas will be restored.”
However, Bwala’s tweet on Monday cautioned the newly appointed minister, urging him to prioritize the essential needs of FCT residents, such as affordable healthcare, quality education, recreational spaces, transportation, city lighting, and security. Bwala emphasized, “Abuja is not Port Harcourt.”
He further criticized Wike’s aggressive stance, terming it as being imbued with a “bullish and vendetta spirit.” Bwala warned Wike that causing unrest in Abuja might compromise the interests of those he serves, leading to potential consequences: “If you create chaos in the city, you will jeopardise your principal’s interests, and he will be forced to sacrifice your job. You will learn humility on the job.”
The impending actions in the FCT and reactions from political circles indicate a brewing tension that may have ripple effects in the Nigerian political landscape.
