INEC Appoints Nine SANs to Defend February 25 Presidential Election Results

INEC has appointed a legal team of nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to defend the results of the February 25 presidential election against over 100 petitions filed by aggrieved candidates. The team will be led by former Nigerian Bar Association President, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), and includes four SANs who are staff members of INEC’s legal department. Read more here.

Rulings Awaited on Inspection of Presidential Election Materials in Nigeria

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) will deliver rulings on motions filed by the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking permission to inspect materials used for the previous presidential election. The rulings, which will also cover motions filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Peter Obi, will be delivered at 2 pm on Wednesday. The outcome of the rulings will have a significant impact on the admissibility of evidence and the course of proceedings in the election tribunal.
