In a bid to enhance road safety during the upcoming ember months, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists plying the Lagos-Badagry expressway, cautioning against overloading and speeding.
Mr. Williams Manga, the Unit Commander of FRSC in Badagry, delivered this critical message during a sensitization program organized for drivers belonging to the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP).
The sensitization event, held on Wednesday, served as an opportunity for the FRSC to engage with drivers and educate them on essential safety measures to be observed during the ember months and beyond.
Manga emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and avoiding overloading, citing these factors as primary contributors to road accidents along the Badagry expressway. He stressed the need for all drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, with properly functioning brakes, wipers, and quality tires to prevent traffic accidents.
Addressing the gathering, Manga urged drivers to prioritize the sanctity of human life by strictly adhering to road rules and regulations. He cautioned against overloading water trucks with goods and passengers, emphasizing the inherent dangers of such practices.
Furthermore, Manga called upon “pure water” drivers (those transporting bottled water) to undergo the proper process of obtaining genuine driver’s licenses to avoid legal repercussions while operating on the roads. He also cautioned against the use of expired or second-hand tires, as they pose a significant risk of causing accidents.
In response to the FRSC’s directives, Mr. Isaac Obadairo, the Chairman of ATWAP in the Badagry zone, pledged the full cooperation of his association’s members with the unit commander’s instructions. He affirmed their commitment to safety, emphasizing the significance of compliance with the guidelines provided during the sensitization program.
“We have heard what you said; this is for us to stay alive and healthy,” Obadairo stated. “We are going to comply with all instructions and directives given to us today. This is the first time we are meeting you since they posted you to Badagry unit command, and we will surely cooperate with your personnel to ensure safety on the highway.”
Obadairo concluded by assuring Manga that ATWAP members would continue to follow due process in acquiring genuine driver’s licenses, underscoring their dedication to maintaining safety on the roads.
As the ember months approach, the FRSC’s efforts to educate and sensitize motorists on safety measures are crucial in reducing road accidents and ensuring the well-being of all road users along the Lagos-Badagry expressway.
