In a somber turn of events, the management of Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced the heartbreaking demise of Miss Modupe Deborah Atanda, a second-year nursing student who had been reported missing earlier this week.
The distressing discovery was made late Wednesday night when Miss Atanda’s lifeless body was found. The news has sent shockwaves throughout the institution and the broader community.
In an official memorandum released by the university’s Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, the institution expressed deep sorrow and described the student’s untimely death as “disturbing.” The administration pledged an unwavering commitment to ensure that those responsible for this tragic incident face the full force of the law.
The statement, which was posted on the university’s official website, read, “It will be recalled that earlier today, the Management had made public the disturbing development of the missing of the deceased and assured that investigation was ongoing as to unravel the whereabouts of the poor student. But current information reaching the security outfit of the University has disclosed that the said student is dead.”
“While the University Management condoles with the deceased’s family and the generality of the University community, particularly our dear students,” the statement continued, “the Management reiterated that investigation is still ongoing and this is being done in collaboration with national security agencies to get to the root of the sad development and bring to book the culprits.”
Furthermore, the Students Union Government (SUG) of the institution, represented by its president, Ajayi Dotun Emmanuel, expressed profound grief at the loss of their fellow student. In a separate statement, President Emmanuel called upon the security authorities in Ekiti State to conduct a thorough investigation and swiftly apprehend those responsible for Miss Atanda’s tragic demise.
Emmanuel, however, categorically refuted reports circulating in certain sections of the media alleging that the deceased’s body had been mutilated. The SUG’s statement clarified, “We can confirm that not less than twelve (12) people have been arrested in connection with the crime, and we would not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
The full statement issued by the Students Union Government read:

“While we mourn her sudden loss and pay our last respects to the dead, we hereby charge every security operative in EKITI STATE to investigate and bring the perpetrators of this grave crime to book. A team comprising the student union executives would pay a condolence visit to her parents and loved ones to show support for the family at this trying time.
