Kizz Daniel’s Surprising Revelation: ‘Woju’ Was Just the Beginning

In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, multi-award-winning Nigerian singer, Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, opened up about his early career aspirations and the unexpected success of his breakthrough hit, ‘Woju.’ The artist, known for his chart-topping tracks and dynamic musical style, shared insights into his journey in the music industry.

Kizz Daniel’s meteoric rise to fame began in 2014 with the release of his hit single ‘Woju.’ The song quickly became a sensation, garnering massive airplay and establishing the artist as a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian music scene.

During the podcast interview, Kizz Daniel revealed that he had initially believed ‘Woju’ would be his only hit song. He disclosed that he had contemplated pursuing a Master’s degree or fully committing to a career in music after the unexpected success of ‘Woju.’

“When I had my first hit song, I was only thinking of that year and not a follow-up song,” Kizz Daniel shared. “I told my dad to give me one year to try music if it pays. I told him, ‘If it pays, I am not going to do my Master’s; I will focus on music, make money, and take care of everybody,’ and he agreed.”

The artist also recalled the challenges he faced during that time, particularly the stigma of being labeled a ‘one-hit wonder.’ “At the time, social media was becoming a thing, and I was called a ‘one-hit wonder.’ I also heard it was difficult to make a hit song,” he stated.

Kizz Daniel acknowledged that the music industry landscape has evolved since then, making it easier for artists to create hit records. He attributed part of his success to the support and prayers of a significant person in his life at the time. “I was lucky to be with a wonderful woman at the time. After ‘Woju,’ she kept on praying; before the remix of ‘Woju’ dropped, she fasted a lot and prayed for a follow-up record,” he revealed.

The follow-up song, ‘Laye,’ was released in May 2015, just a month after he recorded it in April 2015. This track further solidified his presence in the music scene and demonstrated his ability to produce consistent hits.

In a surprising revelation, Kizz Daniel also shared that he has an abundance of unreleased songs. “I’m a studio rat; I am always in the studio recording. I have loads of songs, and if it’s possible to put 50 songs on an album, I will do it,” he declared.

As Kizz Daniel continues to make his mark in the music industry, fans can look forward to more exciting music from this prolific artist. His journey from ‘Woju’ to becoming a musical powerhouse serves as an inspiring testament to the determination and talent that define his career.
