Mohbad, a 27-year-old artist, passed away on September 12, sending shockwaves through the nation. His burial took place the following day, but the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise have sparked intense controversy and unrest across social media platforms.
The outrage over Mohbad’s death led to nationwide protests by thousands of fans who are demanding justice for the beloved singer. Responding to mounting pressure, the Lagos police established a 13-member special investigation team dedicated to probing the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing on September 18.
Recently, on Thursday, the police took the extraordinary step of exhuming Mohbad’s remains to conduct a thorough autopsy, with the results eagerly awaited.
Speaking during the anniversary of The Envoy Nation, a UK-based church, on Sunday, titled ‘Harvest’, Bakare shared his thoughts on Mohbad’s life choices and the consequences they may have had on his fate. In his address, he noted that the late singer had “associated with evil people while he was alive.”
Bakare argued that Mohbad had led an “unpleasant lifestyle” and had failed to foresee the imminent challenges that life could present, especially for someone with fame and youth on their side. He posed a rhetorical question to the congregation, asking if the name “Mohbad” itself was indicative of a virtuous and upright character.
“My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know Mohbad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? Mohbad,” Bakare questioned the gathering. “When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth. I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name? Moh Bad.”
