The five-man panel, presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, reaffirmed Tinubu as the duly elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after an extended period of legal battles.

Months of rigorous legal proceedings at the tribunal came to a dramatic conclusion as the panel unanimously declared that the petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) challenging the presidential election results were “all devoid of merit.”

Among the charges leveled against Tinubu was his alleged failure to secure the required 25 percent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the forfeiture of $460,000 in the United States. However, the tribunal found these claims unsubstantiated, cementing Tinubu’s position as the nation’s leader.

In his official statement, President Tinubu expressed his deep appreciation for the tribunal’s judgment and conveyed a renewed sense of responsibility and dedication to serving all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations, religious beliefs, or tribal identities.

“President Tinubu welcomes the judgment of the court with an intense sense of solemn responsibility and preparedness to serve all Nigerians, irrespective of all diverse political persuasions, faiths, and tribal identities,” Ngelale quoted the president as saying.

“President Tinubu recognizes the diligence, unwavering thoroughness, and professionalism exhibited by the five-member bench, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, in their interpretation of the law.”

“The President affirms that his commitment to the rule of law, and the unhindered discharge of duties by the Court, as witnessed in the panel’s exclusive respect for the merits of the petitions brought forward, further reflects the continuing maturation of Nigeria’s legal system, and the advancement of Africa’s largest democracy at a time when our democratic system of government is under test in other parts of the continent.”

Tinubu also acknowledged the significance of the lawful process undertaken by the petitioners, stating that it reaffirmed Nigeria’s democratic credentials. He called on those who had challenged the election results to encourage their supporters to prioritize patriotism over partisan considerations.

The president’s commitment to unifying the nation and his vision of a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria remains steadfast. As President Tinubu embarks on the next phase of his presidency, Nigerians are keen to see how his renewed commitment to national unity will shape the future of the nation.
