Nigerian music sensation, Rema, has achieved a remarkable milestone in his career by winning the prestigious “Best Afrobeats” award at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).
This victory marks the first-ever presentation of the “Best Afrobeats” category in the history of the EMAs, highlighting the global recognition and influence of the Afrobeats genre.
Originally scheduled to take place in the vibrant city of Paris on November 5, the highly anticipated MTV EMAs was canceled by the organizers due to security concerns arising from the volatile state of global events. However, despite the cancellation of the physical event, the organizers reassured fans and artists that the winning artists would still receive their well-deserved MTV EMA Awards.
Rema, whose dynamic sound and undeniable talent have taken the music world by storm, was not only recognized in the “Best Afrobeats” category but also nominated for the “Best Collaboration” category. In the latter, he was up against formidable competitors and global superstars, ultimately conceding the award to the hit song “TQG” by Karol G and Shakira.
Taylor Swift ALSO emerged as the biggest winner of the night, securing a triumphant three awards, including “Best Artist,” “Best Live,” and “Best Video.” Nicki Minaj also left her mark by winning two awards in the categories of “Best Hip Hop” and “Best US Act.”
