The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders have received 103 Nigerians deported from the Republic of Turkiye. The deportees arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 7 pm on Friday.
A Southwind Airlines flight, TCGRB, transported the deportees, who landed at the pilgrims’ wing of the airport. Federal Government officials, led by NEMA, were present to welcome them.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Director General of NEMA, addressed the returnees. Represented by the Director of the North Central Zone, Alhaji Bashir Garga, she encouraged them to accept their experience in good faith and remain law-abiding. “The returnees were received with dignity to assuage their experience and assured the concerns of the Federal Government over their plights,” she stated.
Umar also announced that financial support had been provided to assist the deportees with transportation to their various locations.
Upon arrival, the deportees were screened by the Port Health Authority. NEMA and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) conducted profiling, while the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) cleared them. Transportation assistance was then arranged to help them reach their destinations.
Several other agencies participated in receiving the deportees, including the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons, and the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency were also involved.
Additionally, officials from the Port Health Authority and the National Intelligence Agency were present to assist with the arrival process.
