Imo State Police Accuse ESN of Killing Officers and Civilian
The Imo State Police Command has accused the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of killing two police officers and a civilian on Tuesday morning in Akabo, Ikeduru Council Area of Imo State.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that a Special Tactical Squad has been deployed to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad and equipped them with the available operational resources and intelligence to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and clamp down on the hoodlums responsible for the unprovoked and unwarranted attack and killing of Police Mobile operatives conducting stop-and-search at Akabo in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State.

“The tragic incident was perpetrated In the early hours of 11/06/2024 by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate Eastern Security Network (ESN) who attacked the operatives in their numbers firing sporadically. The operatives fought gallantly but unfortunately, two personnel and a civilian were fatally hit,” Okoye reported.

Following the attack, CP Aboki Danjuma and the Deputy Commissioner of Operations conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene. A high-powered investigation team has been established to identify and prosecute the culprits, with intensive operations ongoing in the area. The bodies of the deceased officers and civilian have been recovered and placed in a mortuary.

The Commissioner of Police expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that every effort would be made to ensure justice is served. He also called on the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation by reporting to the nearest police station.
