Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has revealed that he was “tricked” into allowing his child to undergo puberty blockers. Musk made this disclosure during a live interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson on Monday.
Peterson referenced Musk’s decision to relocate SpaceX’s headquarters from California, attributing it to California’s new legislation, Assembly Bill 1955, which permits schools to keep a child’s sexual orientation or gender identity confidential from their parents. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law on July 15, 2024.
When asked about his motivation for addressing this issue, Musk shared a personal story about his child, Xavier, who now identifies as transgender and goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson. Musk described the experience as “evil,” claiming that children below the age of consent are being manipulated into gender transitions.
Musk elaborated, “It happened to one of my older boys. I was essentially tricked into signing documents for Xavier. This was before I understood what was happening, and amid the COVID-19 confusion, I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”
Peterson challenged this notion, suggesting that the higher suicide rate among transgender individuals is due to underlying depression and anxiety, not gender dysphoria.
Continuing, Musk said, “It’s incredibly evil. I was tricked into this. It wasn’t explained to me that puberty blockers are sterilization drugs. I lost my son, essentially. They call it ‘deadnaming’ because your son is dead. My son, Xavier, is dead, killed by the woke mind virus. I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that. And we’re making some progress.”
Musk’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the long-term effects of puberty blockers. A preprint study by the Mayo Clinic earlier this year linked these drugs to irreversible long-term fertility issues in boys, contradicting earlier claims that their effects are reversible. The Mayo Clinic website states that puberty blockers, specifically GnRH analogues, are used to pause puberty in transgender and gender-diverse youth by stopping the production of sex hormones.
In June 2022, Vivian Musk, formerly known as Xavier, publicly announced her transgender identity and petitioned to change her name and adopt her mother’s surname, stating, “I no longer want to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
Last week, Musk announced the relocation of SpaceX and X headquarters to Texas in response to California’s new law. Musk had previously warned Governor Newsom that he would move his company if the bill was signed into law, indicating that the decision was not spontaneous.
“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk wrote on X.
