The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) management has confirmed the tragic death of a first-year student, Favour Okenyi, whose body was discovered in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium on Friday, July 5.
Favour Okenyi, a student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, was found lifeless, prompting an immediate response from the university. Chief Okwun Omeaku, the Acting Public Relations Officer, addressed the incident in a statement released on Sunday in Nsukka.
“The university community was shocked by the unfortunate death of the first-year student,” Omeaku stated.
UNN has called for any useful information to aid investigations and identify those responsible for what they described as an “evil act.”
In expressing condolences, the statement noted the university’s cooperation with both security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances leading to her death. The aim is to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again.
“The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student,” the statement read. “The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.”
