President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday presented a bill to the House of Representatives seeking to establish a new national minimum wage of N70,000. This bill aims to formalize the agreement reached between organized Labour, the private sector, and the federal government following extensive negotiations.

In a letter read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the President urged lawmakers to expedite the bill’s passage to ensure its swift implementation, benefiting Nigerian workers as soon as possible. The proposed legislation outlines the legal framework necessary for enforcing the new minimum wage across the country.

Additionally, President Tinubu submitted another letter requesting amendments to the Nigeria Police Act under Section 58 of the 1999 Constitution. This proposed amendment aims to revise the provisions concerning the appointment and tenure of the Inspector General of Police.

The House of Representatives will now consider both submissions, with the President emphasizing the importance of timely legislative action.
