Shrek 5 Announced for 2026 with Original Cast Returning

DreamWorks Animation has officially announced the much-anticipated release of Shrek 5, set for July 1, 2026. This news comes 16 years after the release of Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter in 2010. Despite the various spin-offs like Puss in Boots, this fifth installment marks a significant return to the beloved franchise.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, DreamWorks has confirmed that the original voice actors will reprise their roles: Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Díaz as Princess Fiona. The announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of the first official poster and logo, set to the iconic tune of “All Star” by Smash Mouth, a song synonymous with the Shrek series.

In addition to Shrek 5, fans have more to look forward to. Eddie Murphy recently confirmed that Donkey will have his own spin-off movie. Murphy mentioned that recording for Shrek 5 began months ago and that production on the Donkey film will commence after Shrek 5 is completed.

The year 2026 is shaping up to be monumental for animation, with other major releases including Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and Super Mario Bros. 2 expected to hit theaters. Fans of animated films have much to anticipate in the coming years.
