“The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy,” the team expressed in a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The cause of death for the Gaudreau brothers has not been disclosed. News Center 7 is actively seeking further details regarding the circumstances surrounding their passing.

Johnny Gaudreau, who joined the Columbus Blue Jackets two years ago, quickly became a beloved figure in the community. “Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago, and Columbus welcomed him with open arms. We will miss him terribly and do everything we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy,” the Blue Jackets stated.

Johnny Gaudreau had an illustrious career, having played for Boston College, the Calgary Flames, Team USA, and most recently, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Known affectionately as “Johnny Hockey,” he brought an infectious joy to the game, captivating fans wherever he played.

“Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played,” the Blue Jackets’ statement continued. “His impact on our organization and our sport was profound, but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him.”

Johnny Gaudreau is survived by his wife Meredith, their children Noa and Johnny, and his parents. The hockey world mourns the loss of a remarkable player and an even more remarkable person.
